Items You Will Definitely Need by Your 2nd Trimester

By your second trimester, you probably already downloaded the pregnancy tracker app, are already taking prenatal and started filling out that pregnancy journal but here are some must have items that were very helpful for me as I entered the second trimester.

Pants Extender

When you hit your second trimester you will find that your clothes will start to fit a bit snug. I had the worst experience buying maternity clothes. First of all, Shein just doesn’t have a clue what maternity clothing are. I may have found a couple shirts that I’m still wearing but thats it. Also, you would be very lucky to find a maternity department in department stores like Ross, Marshals, Macy’s, Koles ect. and if you did, they might have 2 or 3 items. Good luck finding them in plus size. Or you can hold off buying maternity clothes and still wear some of your favorite jean or pants just a little bit longer with this extender. It was a life saver for me until I found anything comfortable. Then I just started sizing up in the plus size section with loose fitted dresses and leggings.

I was able to use this extender until I was almost to my third trimester.

Slip on Shoes

You’ll find out soon enough, and if you are carrying a few extra pounds then mabye sooner, that standing on your feet for long periods of time isn’t very comfortable. You will also notice your feet getting a little wider and flatter, thanks to that lovely hormone relaxin. I found that wearing flip flops were the easiest shoe to put on however that leaves room for your feet to relax a bit too much and all of your other shoes or sneakers will begin to fit a bit too snug for you. Your feet will also begin to flatten which can also be uncomfortable, especially when that back pain kicks in. To help alleviate some of the pain and discomfort it is best to have a comfortable shoe with good support. I purchased these Dr. Scholl’s slip ons and they definitely helped since I happen to be carrying a little extra weight then I want to. They come in wide sizes as well which was very helpful as I took to long to buy them. My sneakers are already too tight. I was almost to my third trimester when I finally realized that I should probably get a pair… I live in Florida, we live in flip flops here.

Pregnancy Pillow

This was an item I did not hesitate to purchase early on in the end of my first trimester. Sleep for me is already a difficult thing to get and then lets add on all these changes to your body with more aches and pains. Not fun. Having the extra support on your back, under your tummy and between your legs was, and still is, very helpful. There are so many pregnancy pillows to choose from that it is difficult to decide on which to get, but I ended up with the Snoogle and I can’t complain. It does the trick.

Prune Juice

Here is a subject no one likes to talk about… the toilet. I know that every body is different when if comes to pregnancy but I had a tough time going since around the time I found out I was pregnant. But before you go right to the medicine, and your Dr.s will try and prescribe you everything under the sun trust me, you might want to try adding some more fiber to your diet first. I drink about a few gulps of prune juice every morning on an empty stomach and it has definitely been helping me go. Some days you might need a little more than a few gulps, some days you may not, but you should pay attention to your body to know the right amount to take.

Calm – Magnesium Supplement

On top of the prune juice, I also take Calm before bed as needed. It is a natural supplement that is supposed to help relax and calm from the stresses of the day. Take it before bed and as an added bonus, the magnesium citrate also helps you go poo too!

Seat Bump Strap

When your tummy begins to grow, any sort of pressure on it feels uncomfortable especially the seatbelt. As an added bonus, it increases safety for the baby, just in case.

Book for the dad to be

I waited for the 2nd trimester to purchase this #1 best seller book for my husband. We tried really really hard to stay calm and not get overly excited before the magical line of the 12 week mark. We had been trying for YEARS… well I don’t need to tell you why they say not to announce your pregnancy until you made it to 12 weeks. We’re Pregnant! not only was a thoughtful (and sorta emotional) gift for him, it has lots of information for them to keep up with our crazy, hormonal changing body.

Let me know if I missed anything! I would love to hear some of the items that you thought were an absolute must have by your second trimester!
